About Us

Rick & JanetA unique part of the Bayfield experience for more than thirty years .... Highland Valley Farm was established when we settled near Bayfield to raise a family in 1977. A knowledge of beekeeping and honey production we brought with us. We were introduced to raspberry horticulture by our Bayfield predecessors. Blueberry production we pioneered by establishing the first commercial planting of newly developed winter-hardy blueberry varieties in northern Wisconsin. The production of black currants and maple syrup are our most recent enterprise additions.

Over the years we have become recognized for our efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture, our stewardship of the land, horticultural innovations, and superb products. More recently, all three of our adult children have returned to partner with their parents in the farm venture. Our family enjoys sharing the beauty of Bayfield and the bounty of our crops with the many people who visit Highland Valley Farm every year.

Good Food for a Healthy FutureHighland Valley Farm is a "sustainable farm" member of Food Alliance, a coalition of farmers, consumers, scientists, grocers, processors, distributors, and environmentalists working together to ensure "Good Food for a Healthy Future". As a non-profit national organization, Food Alliance provides independent third party audit and certification of member farms to ensure that food is grown in environmentally & socially responsible ways. Food Alliance growers are committed to systems and philosophies of sustainable agriculture that emphasize protecting and enhancing natural resources, using alternatives to pesticides, and caring for the health and well being of farm workers and rural communities. Highland Valley Farm received the annual "Keeper of the Vision" award from Food Alliance-Midwest in 2007.
